FTH:K was saddened to hear of the passing of Yvonne, one of our greatest supporters and a member of our Advisory Board.  We wish her family great strength in this time, knowing that she remains a very special person to so so so many of us.  Our industry, our Company and our theatre is going to miss her terribly.  The comments below are just a small indication of how much:

“A seminal force of Cape Town theatre is no longer with us…this is a shout out to the spirit and soul of Yvonne Banning, who we didn’t know as well as we should have, but who made it her business to know us and get involved.  From our Advisory Board, to every single show we’ve ever done, to every work-in-progress showing, Yvonne was there – challenging, supporting, and gently but firmly steering us in the intended direction.  It was an absolute pleasure and a pride to know such an amazing woman, and so many respects and celebrations are due from everyone.  From all of the clowns at FTH:K, beeg love and respect.” Rob Murray

“It was with great sadness that we at PANSA heard the news that Yvonne Banning had passed away. She has been one of the icons of our industry and has always shown incredible support to us, the industry and everyone whose lives she touched.”  The Performing Arts Network of South Africa

”It is with deep sadness that I pass on the news that Yvonne passed away quickly, painlessly and peacefully on Monday night with her children at her bedside.  Yvonne, as her students know, was inspiring and deeply nurturing of individual creativity. Some of the finest postgraduate writing produced in this department was crafted under her supervision. She tirelessly supported postgraduate work and particularly the people in the work no matter how big or small the project. While the loss is huge she leaves a legacy of high academic and artistic standards, keen curiosity, witty engagement and absolute loyalty to realising the vision and following the dream.” Liz Mills (of the UCT Drama Department)
